APPEARANCE
Priests were forbidden to wear any material that would come from an animal, as it was considered unclean. Usually, the priests would wear linen or anything similar in the form of a robe or kilt. The only exception to this rule is if the person was a Sem priest; they were expected to wear leopard skin, as leopards were sacr
ed animals (all animals in the cat family were considered sacred in Ancient Egyptian culture). Leopard skin had a connection with the after-life and rebirth, this being another reason Sem priests could wear it. As priests were not allowed to wear leather, they wore papyrus sandals. Essentially, priests would be bald but were allowed a feather crown or a wig.
